Crossing Place Trail
Connecting Gateway Lakes to the Crossing Place, this 5km scenic loop along the Murray River enhances community access to one of the region's most iconic landscapes. Designed to invite the community outdoors, the trail offers a unique blend of recreation, nature, and art.
From the outset of being engaged by City of Wodonga, careful planning guided every stage of the project. The trail alignment was thoughtfully selected to minimise impact on existing vegetation, preserving the natural landscape while enhancing accessibility. Consideration was also given to the Murray River's changing conditions, with the route and construction methods designed to account for potential flooding and reduce long-term impact on the trail.
Beyond constructing extensive granitic pathways, ECS delivered a range of complementary infrastructure to ensure durability, safety, and comfort. New rural fencing was installed, along with custom-designed and fabricated kissing gates to protect the trail from agistment stock while maintaining easy access for walkers and cyclists. Concrete pads were constructed to securely anchor park benches, creating welcoming rest stops along the journey.
Art and landscape were thoughtfully integrated throughout the trail. ECS worked closely with several artists, providing on-site support to transport and assist install sculptural pieces that now enrich the experience and celebrate the character of the region.
