This multi-million dollar project is the fruition of over six years of planning, fundraising and applications for grant funding by a dedicated group of community members (including the local council) who were determined to create an inclusive destination regional playground located on the Lake Mulwala foreshore.

This multi-million dollar project represents the culmination of more than six years of planning, fundraising, and successful grant applications led by a passionate group of community members in partnership with the local council. Their shared vision was to create an inclusive, destination playground on the picturesque foreshore of Lake Mulwala.

Before construction could begin, extensive site preparation and demolition works were undertaken. This included the removal of outdated and derelict play equipment, bollards and furniture, willow trees, and the decommissioning of an existing boat ramp and carpark to make way for the new playspace.

Construction was delivered during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring careful coordination, adaptability, and proactive management of supply chain disruptions and material shortages. Despite these constraints, the project was successfully completed to a high standard, ensuring the community could benefit from this significant investment.

Today, Purtle Park stands as a vibrant, accessible community hub. Key features include a striking Skywalk and climbing net, engaging sensory waterplay, a large sandpit, and a diverse range of swings, slides and spinning elements designed to cater to children of all abilities. The precinct is further enhanced by new BBQ facilities, compliant DDA drinking fountains, and energy-efficient solar lighting.

Stage 2 of the project further strengthened the park’s connection to Lake Mulwala, delivering a protected sandy beach area along the water’s edge. Designed for safe paddling and informal water play, the beach also provides improved access for canoes and other small watercraft, enhancing recreational opportunities for the broader community.

ECS has maintained an ongoing relationship with the evolution of Purtle Park, returning in 2022 to install an accessible carousel to further enhance inclusive play opportunities and complement the existing playground features. Our continued involvement demonstrates the strength of our partnership and reflects the client’s confidence in our workmanship, reliability, and commitment to delivering lasting community assets.
